Are Organics Worth the Price? YES!

Are Organics Worth the Price? YES!

An international team of researchers, including the renowned Charles Benbrook at Washington State University, reviewed 343 peer-reviewed studies comparing organic with conventional produce. Their conclusions?  Organic food is more nutritious, especially in antioxidant polyphenols that have been linked to lowering the risk of chronic diseases like heart disease, neurodegenerative disease and cancer.  Organic produce is safer. Conventionally grown crops were 4 times more likely to contain pesticide residues and, in addition, they had significantly higher concentrations of the toxic heavy metal cadmium. When interviewed, Benbrook noted that the quality and reliability of comparison studies has greatly improved in recent years leading to the discovery of significant nutritional and food safety differences not detected in earlier studies. In 2003, the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) reported finding pesticides in every one of the 9,000+ Americans they tested. The…

Detox to Feel Great and Prevent Disease

. . . with an infrared sauna Toxins are often responsible for common complaints like lack of energy, achy joints, brain fog, nausea, headaches, poor immunity, allergies, vision problems, and PMS – complaints that can foreshadow more serious illnesses. Scientists estimate that everyone alive today carries within their bodies at least 700 chemical contaminants. Doris J. Rapp, MD, past president of the American Academy of Environmental Medicine and author of Our Toxic World: A Wake Up Call, warned, “Everybody in this country needs to be detoxified because we’ve all become ‘toxic dumpsites.’” There are only two causes of disease:  nutrient deficiency and toxicity.  So it just makes sense to detox. The best way I’ve found is with an infrared sauna. Water-soluble toxins pass through the body relatively easily, but fat-soluble chemicals can persist and accumulate in our tissues for decades, doing more and more damage year after year. It’s difficult to get these fat-soluble toxins…

Don’t Get That Cold or Flu!

Don’t Get That Cold or Flu!

It’s flu season again, but you don’t need to get caught by a cold or the flu. The truth is, healthy people don’t get colds. Many people in traditional healthy cultures live well past a hundred without getting a single cold. Here’s what you need to do: Build your immunity daily with the Beyond Health Wellness Kit appropriate for you (call our office at 800-250-3063 if you don’t know which one to take), 8-10 glasses of pure water, exercise that produces a sweat (and/or take regular saunas), and a good, sugar-free, alkalinizing diet. Get your vitamin D levels tested; if they aren’t in the high-normal range, include 1-2 capsules of Beyond Health vitamin D3 in your daily supplement program and retest every 3 months until they are. Minimize stress, avoid allergens (they tax the immune system), and try to get a good night’s sleep every night. This should keep your immunity in tip-top shape—ready to throw off any viruses that come its way. However, because life isn’t perfect, and neit…

Breaking Free of Heavy Metal Toxicity

Breaking Free of Heavy Metal Toxicity

Heavy metals, like lead, mercury, cadmium and arsenic, are one of our biggest health problems. Used to manufacture many common products, they’re now found throughout our air, water and food. Virtually all of us harbor toxic heavy metals in our bodies.Heavy metals bioaccumulate, so even small exposures add up over time, triggering problems like heart disease, thyroid disease, dementia, neurological disease and birth defects. Tiny amounts of mercury have been shown to damage the brain of a developing fetus or child.Heavy metals cause problems by displacing other minerals needed for essential body functions. For example, cadmium can replace zinc in key enzymes, causing those enzymes to malfunction so critical biological functions can’t be performed. Many physicians use chelation to remove heavy metals—a “chelating agent” is ingested that binds with heavy metals and carries them out of the body through urine and/or feces. Chelation therapy is especially recommended, and has often been a “m…

Avoiding PFAS

Avoiding PFAS

PFAS (per- and profluoroalkyls) are a group of toxic man-made chemical compounds used in a variety of non-stick, water-repellent, and grease and stain-resistant applications. Detrimental to just about every body organ, they’ve been associated with a host of diseases including weakened immune function, cancer, and developmental problems in children.Unfortunately, PFOA, the best known of the PFAS, is found in just about all Americans, and has a half-life in humans of about four years. After a lot of bad press, PFOA and its close cousin, PFOS, were banned by the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA), so their levels in our bodies are going down. But they’re being rapidly replaced by new PFAS that, according to environmental advocacy organization, the Environmental Working Group (EWG), are just as bad. No level of PFAS is desirable in the human body. And since there doesn’t seem to be any way to facilitate their removal (even sweating in an infrared sauna didn’t help to…
