Top Back to School Essentials for Kids You Need Now

The school year is back and we have some tips on how to cold and flu-proof your child.Children need special nutritional support as they head back to school each fall. Any gathering of kids creates a perfect opportunity for germs to spread, and no sooner has the school year gotten underway then flu season beginning. How can you strengthen your child’s immune system and avoid winter colds and flus?Number one, banish sugar from your child’s diet. Even a small amount of refined sugar can suppress your child’s immune system for hours. Immune cells need a lot of vitamin C to function normally, but sugar, which has a chemical structure similar to vitamin C, competes with the vitamin to enter the cells, creating an artificial vitamin C shortage. Avoid fruit juices (including orange juice), which are also too high in sugar. Whole fruits, however, are fine in moderation.Feed your child the right fats. Trans fats and excess omega 6 fats (found in supermarket vegetable oils) depress immunity,…

Cleveland Clinic MD Says Daily Multi is a Must

High-quality supplements are a pivotal part of Raymond Francis’s approach to getting well and staying well, and supplying them is a cornerstone of our business at Beyond Health. We believe that even if you eat an exceptionally healthy diet, high-quality supplements, especially a multivitamin, essential fatty acids extra vitamin C, and vitamin D if levels are tested and found to be low, are essential to maintaining optimal health. (For the many reasons why, see Raymond’s free report, The Roadmap to Supplements.) So we were pleased to read that Mark Hyman, MD, Director of the prestigious Cleveland Clinic’s Center for Functional Medicine, wholeheartedly agrees. The Cleveland Clinic is an academic medical center and a leader in research, education and health information in Cleveland, Ohio. It is rated the second best hospital in the country by US News & World Report, and #1 for heart care. Dr. Hyman himself is well-known for his best-selling books and many appearances on public te…

Exploring Alternatives for Skin TB Treatment in Kids

First you have to determine if any treatment is needed. The skin reaction could be a false positive and no treatment is required. The first thing to do is ask for a blood test. Ask to have a MELISA test. If the test is negative, there is no need for further action. If the test is positive, then you need to look further. If there is an active infection, then there are a variety of treatments available that do not involve dangerous prescription drugs like antibiotics. Vitamin C is always essential, and treatment with intravenous vitamin C would be one option to consider. Another option is vitamin D. A study in Indonesia cured 100 percent of the patients, with several forms of active tuberculosis, by using 10,000 IU per day of vitamin D. Another option would be to find an M.D. who uses Photoluminescence Therapy (UBI treatment of blood). This involves removing some blood, exposing it to ultraviolet light, and putting it back in the body. In the early days when this therapy was develo…

Understanding Calcium and Osteoporosis: Key Insights

The biggest misconception about osteoporosis is that it can be prevented simply by getting enough calcium in the diet or through supplements. At Beyond Health we often get questions about “what’s the best calcium for building good bones?” On the other hand, many people tell us they’ve heard that supplemental calcium can be dangerous (we’ll get to that later). But first, while we’re glad that more and more women (and men!) of all ages are taking proactive steps to build bones that will last a lifetime, building healthy bone is a little more complicated than just getting enough calcium. Calcium plays many vital roles in our bodies—in energy production, nerve transmission, muscle contraction, blood clotting and more—but it is certainly most well known as the major component of bone (it makes up about 65% of our bones). But like the star player on a football team, calcium can’t “win the game” by itself. It needs a complete team of vitamins and minerals backing it up.For examp…

Discover The Vitamin C Flush - Your Health Weapon

Health begins in the gut - the intestines; and, thanks to antibiotics, chlorinated water, bad diet, food allergens, and vaccinations, almost everyone has a major problem in their gut. Chronic gut inflammation, raging like an out-of-control forest fire, causes digestion issues, skin eruptions, weak immunity, allergies, autoimmune illness and a host of other health issues. The Vitamin C Flush is the fire hose needed to subdue the flames so the gut can begin to heal itself. There are many factors today that irritate the lining of the gut, which by the way, is where 70% of our immune system resides. Antibiotics kill beneficial bacteria, allowing pathogenic bacteria to proliferate and produce toxins that damage the gut wall. Chlorine in our water is an irritant. A diet of processed and fast foods is an inflammation-producing diet; the Big Four are major inflammation inciters - sugar, wheat and refined flour, processed oils and dairy/excessive animal protein. Food allergens prompt the immune…

Discovering An End to Heart Disease? Find Out Now!

Now I’ve got to the point where I think we can get almost complete control of cardiovascular disease, heart attacks and strokes by the proper use of vitamin C and lysine. If you are at risk of heart disease or if there is a history of heart disease in your family . . . or if you have had a mild heart attack yourself, then you had better be taking vitamin C and lysine. – Linus PaulingIn the US, heart disease causes 700,000 deaths each year—more than all forms of cancer combined.  Atherosclerosis, or “hardening of the arteries” causes most heart attacks and strokes and is found to some degree in almost everyone today, even babies. It doesn’t have to be this way.Dr. Linus Pauling proposed a solution: vitamin C . . .Thirty years ago, chemist Linus Pauling, two-time Nobel Prize winner and one of the great scientific minds of the 20th century, proposed that vitamin C deficiency is the major cause of atherosclerosis.Among its more than 300 functions in the human body, vitamin C helps the…

Essential Nutritional Support for the Aging Brain

It is now considered normal to lose cognitive function as you age -- to experience diminished memory, reasoning and speed in processing information. This "normal" age-related cognitive decline is contrasted to dementias, like Alzheimer's, which are much more debilitating and include severe nerve cell damage and death of nerve cells. In fact, age-related cognitive decline and dementia are the same thing. What you call it is a matter of degree, and it is primarily a product of our unhealthy diets and lifestyles.Maintaining a youthful brain does, however, require superior nutrition from both diet and high-quality supplements. A brain support program would include the B vitamins and the antioxidant vitamins A, C, D and E. Fish or flax oil is a must, and the need for it increases with age.By middle age, it's best to be supplementing with CoQ10, acetyl-L-carnitine, and multiple B vitamins. (Deficiencies in vitamin B12 are common and often misdiagnosed as dementias or…

Essential Radiation Hazard Update You Need to Know

. . .  Upping our need for antioxidantsWe now know that Fukushima is by far the worst nuclear accident in history. After Chernobyl, there was a related worldwide decline in health. How are we being affected by Fukushima? Although there have been no government warnings of excessive radiation levels, there is credible scientific evidence that there is no safe level of radiation.Suffice it to say that our health is under additional assault, and that it has never been more important to (1) make sure you are not deficient in iodine (most Americans are! call our office to find out how to test your iodine status) and (2) take antioxidant supplements. The more toxic our environment becomes, and this includes radiation, the more antioxidants we need to render the toxins harmless. For example, if you ingest more of the antioxidant vitamin C than your body needs, you get diarrhea. Someone who can normally take 6 grams a day may catch a cold and need 30, 40, even 50 grams a day before ge…

Fill in Nutritional Gaps with Beyond Health’s Kit

For years, we’ve repeatedly warned that you can no longer get all the required nutrients your body needs from food, and we’re not alone. Researchers from four reputable institutions recently took issue with the latest claims that vitamin supplements are a waste of money. In a commentary published in the Annals of Internal Medicine, researchers from the Linus Pauling Institute at Oregon State University, the Children’s Hospital Oakland Research Institute, Tufts University, and the Harvard School of Public Health asserted that while a proper diet is the preferred way to get nutrients required by your cells and necessary for optimal health, it’s no longer possible for most Americans. Current lifestyle and dietary choices create “nutritional gaps” that simply cannot be overcome by food alone. What are these nutritional gaps? Most Americans eat a typical diet of overly processed foods containing white flour, sugar, red meat, dairy, and processed vegetable oils. Yet, you may remember us mention…

Explore The Biochemistry of Food Cravings, Part I

. . . understanding the science puts you in control! Most people attribute food cravings and binges to emotional eating. But although strong emotions can certainly be a factor in uncontrolled or compulsive eating, cravings have a biochemical basis. The more you know about what's happening to your biochemistry when you experience an "uncontrollable" craving, the more freedom you have to get back into the driver's seat. This week, we'll look at the connection between food allergies and food addiction. Is there a particular food you eat just about every day, and, when it comes right down to it, you wouldn't give up without a fight? Sorry, but you're probably addicted to it.You may wake up in the morning with a headache or feeling grouchy "until you've had a good breakfast" of cereal with milk and sugar, or bagel or croissant and coffee, or eggs, toast and orange juice. What are the most common food allergens? Wheat (and especially the gluten in wheat, also found in barley and rye), oats, co…

Essential Nutritional Support for Vaccination Success

We haven’t taken sides on whether or not you should get the COVID vaccine. Following in Raymond Francis’ footsteps, we are skeptical about vaccines in general and continue to maintain that the best defense against disease is making the effort to achieve optimal health with what we’ve called “the Beyond Health Lifestyle.” There are also many unknowns about the new technologies used in the COVID vaccines, and enough is known about the older vaccines and the drug companies making the new vaccines to cause concern. Still, even with the best of intentions, not everyone will be able to achieve optimal health. The vaccines appear to be saving lives and allowing a return to something approaching normality, and the pressures to be vaccinated in order to fully participate in the new world that’s being created are intense. With that in mind, we’ve been reading what various experts in nutrition recommend for making vaccinations as safe and effective as possible. Would it surprise anyone if we star…

Flu Season is Coming: Time NOT to Get A Flu Shot

Why Many Health-Care Workers Decline Flu Shots — and What That Signals About Immune Health Each year, flu season typically peaks in winter, though it can begin as early as fall. Public health guidance encourages early vaccination, and yet a notable percentage of health-care professionals choose not to receive annual flu shots. This reality raises an important and often overlooked question:Why would trained medical professionals opt out? What the Data Shows According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, annual influenza vaccination is recommended for health-care workers. However, surveys over the years have consistently shown less than universal participation. At various points, reported uptake among doctors, nurses, and clinical staff has hovered around 60–65%, meaning a substantial minority decline vaccination each year. Mandates, Resistance, and Ongoing Debate In response to lower participation, many hospitals have implemented mandatory vaccination policie…

Discover How Much Vitamin C Are You Taking Daily?

Why Vitamin C Intake Is Often Not Enough — Even If You’re Supplementing Many people assume they’re getting enough vitamin C.In reality, most aren’t even close. From informal surveys of Beyond Health customers, a consistent pattern emerges: vitamin C intake is often far below what’s needed to support optimal cellular function, stress resilience, and long-term health. Vitamin C is foundational to the Beyond Health lifestyle—not because it prevents a single deficiency disease, but because it supports hundreds of essential biological processes throughout the body. Why Government Recommendations Miss the Mark Official vitamin C guidelines were designed to prevent scurvy, not to support: Immune resilience Tissue repair Detoxification Inflammatory balance Healthy aging These recommendations do not reflect the true physiological needs of humans, especially in today’s high-stress, high-toxin environment. Vitamin C: A Core Biological Requir…

It’s That Time of Year Again: Time to SKIP That Flu Shot

As flu season approaches, many people start asking the same important question: What’s the smartest way to protect my health? The truth is, strong immunity is never built from a single intervention it’s built from daily habits that support your body at the cellular level. Here’s what science consistently shows about flu prevention: • Influenza vaccines are designed each year to match circulating strains and can reduce risk of severe illness, hospitalization, and complications—especially in older adults, children, and those with chronic conditions.• Their effectiveness varies season to season because flu viruses mutate rapidly.• No preventive strategy is 100% protective, which is why layered immune support matters. Why Foundational Health Still Matters Most Your immune system functions best when your cells are properly nourished and not burdened by deficiencies. Research consistently links immune resilience with: ✔ Adequate sleep✔ Balanced nutriti…

Why Daily Aspirin Use Could Increase Your Risk of Vision Loss

. . . it could double your risk for macular degeneration A European study on nearly 4,700 men and women over 65 found that daily aspirin users more than doubled their risk of late stage, "wet" macular degeneration. Age-related macular degeneration is the leading cause of legal blindness resulting in loss of independence among older Americans. The macula is a tiny, highly sensitive region in the center of the retina that allows you to see fine details and colors. Without it, you aren't totally blind, but all you see is shapes and movement in shades of black and white. With age, the macula can deteriorate in one of two ways. It can become thin and sprinkled with debris called drusen (the dry form), or blood vessels beneath the retina may push up into the macula and leak blood and fluids (the wet form). The wet form, which is considered the more serious, was the form associated with aspirin use in the above study. (Aspirin is known to cause small hemorrhages under the retina.) Other…
