Description

Curcumin is the principle active ingredient of turmeric, the spice that gives Indian curries their golden color. In India, turmeric is revered as “holy powder,” and it has played a major role in traditional Ayurvedic (Indian) medicine for centuries. Curcumin is now being studied in search of possible remedies for some of the major epidemics of our time.

Curcumin beneficially affects the expression of more than 700 genes and influences numerous biochemical pathways at the same time. This results in all kinds of healthy biochemistry that supports just about every system in the body: cardiovascular, glucose metabolism, gastrointestinal, immune, musculoskeletal (benefits to muscles, joints and bones), respiratory—you name it; curcumin is going to have some documented positive effect.

Many of curcumin’s benefits are due to its antioxidant capabilities as well as to its ability to block the powerful inflammation inducer nuclear factor kappa beta. It also stabilizes the all- important cell membrane, which supports health at its most fundamental level, the cell level.

Our Curcumin Formula features Curcumin C3 Complex® (C3C) from the Sabinsa Corporation. Sabinsa has been the acknowledged leader in curcumin research and manufacture in the United States since the mid 1990s. When the National Institutes of Health and major universities study curcumin, C3C is generally the form they use, and it has a very long history of safety and effectiveness.

Curcumin comes from the spice turmeric and is actually a combination of three different “curcuminoids:”

Curcumin, Demethoxycurcumin, and Bisdemethoxycurcumin.

In nature, these three curcuminoids form anywhere from 2-9% of the turmeric rhizome (or root). To make C3C, they have been extracted and standardized to provide 95% minimum curcuminoids; however, the three curcuminoids are present in the same ratio in which they appear in nature. This unique feature is important since it may account for some of C3C’s special clinical benefits.

To address curcumin’s notorious bio-vailability limitations, we have added 5 mg of Piperine (an extract of black pepper) per 250 mg capsule. In one study, the bioavailability of 2,000 mg (2 grams) of curcumin was enhanced 20 times by the addition of 20 mg of Piperine, with no adverse effects.

Take this opportunity to stock up on an herb that has been deservedly called “the spice of life.”

It does help my arthritic knuckle joints! I know because I take the Curcumin pills - one or two each day and then I was out of town for a week and did not bring them with me. After four days my joints starting slightly aching and kept increasing in soreness. After I returned and was back on the Curcumin for a few days, the swelling and pain eased off!
