Mold Allergies and Vitamin D (Prevents and treatments)

A new study in the Journal of Clinical Investigation found that Vitamin D may be able to prevent and even treat allergies to common molds. Mold allergies are a nuisance to people who have them, but they can be dangerous for those with asthma or cystic fibrosis. The study discovered that people who developed these allergies had lower levels of vitamin compared to healthy people. Vitamin D not only helped lower the levels of allergy-driving proteins, but it also boosted the production of proteins that increased the body’s resistance to this type of allergy. This means that maintaining adequate vitamin D levels can not only help to prevent but also help those who already have such allergies.…

Protecting Your Lungs From COVID-19

Protecting Your Lungs From COVID-19

COVID-19’s preferred habitat is the respiratory tract, where it is most life-threatening in the lungs.  Infected lungs can become so congested that breathing becomes impossible without the help of a ventilator, and even using a ventilator hasn’t been enough in some cases to prevent death. So now is a good time to give your lungs some special care and consideration.  If you already have lung problems, such as asthma or chronic obstructive pulmonary disease, you’re more apt to get serious complications like pneumonia from COVID-19.  And whether or not you have existing lung problems, air pollution exposure increases your risk.  According to Dr. Meredith McCormack, a spokeswoman for the American Lung Association and associate professor of pulmonary and critical care at Johns Hopkins University, recently quoted in the New York Times , “Increased pollution increases susceptibility to infection. . . . All things being equal, a person exposed to a…

Vitamin D and Asthma...Deficiency linked to asthma

Vitamin D and Asthma...Deficiency linked to asthma

Beyond Health's Vitamin D Recent reviews of the medical literature indicate that vitamin D deficiency is linked to asthma. A 2010 study in the Allergy, Asthma & Immunology that vitamin D deficiency may be linked to airway inflammation, decreased lung function and poor asthma control. It appears that vitamin D helps improve asthma symptoms by preventing the release of inflammatory cytokines and increasing the secretion of anti-inflammatory proteins. Vitamin D is found in foods, such as eggs and fish. It is also produced in the body after sun exposure. Most Americans are deficient in vitamin D, especially at the end of the winter. Supplementing daily with Beyond Health’s Vitamin D3 Formula is recommended.…

Childhood Immunizations

Childhood Immunizations

. . . good for business; bad for kids Pediatric vaccines are big business. Valued at $14 billion in 2010, the industry is expected to generate $24.3 billion in 2017. Keep in mind that this is only one portion of the enormous profits being generated by the vaccine industry as a whole, and you will understand why vaccines are being pushed on the American public like yesterday’s junk bonds. Vaccines are great for business, but are they good for our children? There is a simple answer to that: no. Two articles on the Beyond Health website, one by Dr. Russell Blaylock and the other by myself, go into more detail, but fundamentally, our children are being bombarded with more and more vaccines, and these are having a devastating effect on their health, particularly on the immune system and the brain. A German website, impfshaden.info (its counterpart in the US is vaccineinjury.info) has been conducting an informal survey comparing the health of vaccinated to unvaccinated children.…

Nature and Sleep

Spending time in the natural world can normalize our inner “body clock” also known as our circadian rhythm. Attuned to environmental cues like sunlight, temperature, and seasonal changes, our circadian rhythm regulates many physiological processes, including when to sleep and when to eat. Artificial light and electronic devices like computers and televisions give our bodies false cues that have nothing to do with the natural order of things and disrupt our circadian rhythm, which a growing body of research has linked to many mental and physical health problems. Sleep issues are an obvious casualty, as is false hunger leading to overweight and obesity. Circadian rhythm disruption has also been implicated in high blood pressure and heart disease, cognitive dysfunction, neurological problems like Parkinson’s disease, asthma, autoimmune illness, and mental health issues like depression, seasonal affective disorder (SAD) and bipolar disorder. A recent University of Colorado study w…

Chemicals in Tap Water Linked to Food Allergies

Chemicals in Tap Water Linked to Food Allergies

Environmental toxins are overwhelming our immune and detoxification systems to make us the most allergy prone people in world history.  Simply drinking a glass of tap water can bombard your body with chemicals that have been linked to allergies and asthma. Allergist Elina Jerschow, MD, and colleagues at the Albert Einstein College of Medicine in New York have linked chlorine-related chemicals known as dichlorophenols, which are found in tap water and in pesticides, with both allergies and asthma. These researchers found that people with the highest levels of dichlorophenols were 80% more likely to have a food allergy and 61% more likely to have both a food allergy and an environmental allergy (like pollen).  Subsequent research found a similar association between asthma and high levels of dichlorophenols in the urine. While more studies are needed to prove the chemicals cause either allergies or asthma, population studies have shown that there is a similar rise in bo…

Can Taking Showers Cause Cancer?

Can Taking Showers Cause Cancer?

Taking showers can cause cancer! Twenty years ago the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) placed hot showers on their list of cancer sources. The main culprit was chlorine. Chlorine is a poisonous chemical, a bleaching agent. Sure, it does a great job of killing living things in our water, like bacteria and viruses. The problem is we’re living things too. Chlorine gas was used as a deadly weapon during World War I! Chlorine is a pro-oxidant that causes free radical damage in the body, a major factor in aging and in every kind of disease. Chlorine and its by-products have been linked with various forms of cancer, neurological issues, reproductive problems, heart disease (including atherosclerosis and hypertension), decreased immunity, allergies, hypothyroidism and lung problems. When you smell chlorine in your shower, it’s because it’s escaping into the air as chlorine gas. Since showers are usually poorly ventilated, chlorine gas concentrations can be quite high. In sufficient…
