What Are Superfoods?

What Are Superfoods?

We all want to get the most out of our diet and there has been much talk about supposed Superfoods that are more nutritionally dense then other foods. For most, these fruits and vegetables, with a few meats and dairy, are the Holy Grail of foods.

People expect them to turn their lives around, but these so-called superfoods aren’t the miracles they appear to be. Many people don’t understand what a superfood is and how vitamin and mineral supplements can be just as good.

What Are Superfoods?

There aren’t any criteria put forth by the Food and Drug Administration on the definition of a superfood. It is commonly assumed they contain high levels of vitamins and minerals without a lot of calories. People get more bang for their buck.

One of the most important aspects of superfoods is the number of antioxidants. Free radicals are negative biological elements in the body that can lead to a number of issues from heart disease to cancer.

Antioxidants can decrease or even reverse the impact of these free radicals in the body. Despite this, super foods are not cure-alls and only provide benefits if they are part of a well- balance diet.

What Are Examples of Superfoods?

Odds are you’ve heard about some of these in the news or in your social media feeds. There has been much emphasis placed upon a number of berries such as Acai, Blueberries and Goji berries for their restorative properties.

Acai berries have high amounts of antioxidants and blueberries are high in fiber, manganese and Vitamin C. Goji berries are high in vitamin C, E and help with high blood pressure and diabetes.

Vegans and vegetarians rely on soybeans in their diet, and they are considered a superfood because of their high levels of isoflavones that help reduce bad cholesterol, help with memory loss and increase bone density.

There is a long list of superfoods including dark chocolate, wine, teas, garlic, turmeric and many more. It can be hard incorporating all of them into a balance diet, but there is a way to get much of their benefits without resorting a drastic change in diet.

Supplements for Superfoods

There are many types of supplements available that have the same characteristics of superfoods. High quality Vitamin C, D and Multi-vitamins contain many of the needed vitamins and minerals.

The problem is not all supplements are created the same. Many don’t provide the absorption necessary to get the most out of the supplements. Beyond Health’s supplements are specially formulated for maximum absorption in the body.

If you can’t rely on superfoods to get your needed vitamins and minerals, then you need supplements that provide you the highest value.

Superfoods Are Not Perfect

Many superfoods do have high levels of certain vitamins and minerals, but they’re not a cure-all for your ills. They only work if they are part of a well-balanced diet.

Superfoods need to be incorporated into a diet and are not a diet on their own. If you want to get the effects of superfoods without a drastic change to your diet, then consider our multi-vitamin and other products.
