Water Contamination and Your Immune System

Water Contamination and Your Immune System

A strong immune system is your best defense against COVID-19, and drinking enough water is crucial for supporting immunity. But it needs to be pure water; contaminated water will hamper an effective immune response.

Unfortunately, most tap water is contaminated with hundreds of toxic chemicals!

Most people believe the government makes sure their tap water is safe to drink, a belief bolstered by yearly reports from local water departments showing low levels of certain contaminants in their water.

But thousands of contaminants aren't included in these reports! The Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) has established safety standards for only 87 of the thousands of chemical compounds that have been found in public water.

Pesticides, herbicides, toxic wastes from landfills, fertilizers, chemical and oil spills, acid rain, run-off from feedlots and sewage treatment plants, prescription drugs, industrial waste, toxic heavy metals, petrochemicals and all manner of organic chemicals find their way into our water.

Our local water departments work hard to remove and/or chemically alter as many contaminants as they can, but they’re simply not equipped to handle the barrage of chemicals in our water today.

And to make matters worse, they add toxins to our water . . .

Chlorine and chloramines kill germs, but they’re dangerous pro-oxidants that cause free radical damage in the body, a major factor in aging and in every kind of disease. In addition to decreased immunity, chlorine and chloramines have been linked with cancer, neurological problems, miscarriages and neural tube defects, atherosclerosis, high blood pressure, allergies, hypothyroidism, lung disease, and more.

The fluoridation of US public water to prevent tooth decay, which began in 1945, was hailed as one of modern medicine’s greatest achievements.  Today more than 70% of our public water is fluoridated at an annual cost of $325 million. But both the efficacy and safety of this practice are being questioned.  In 2015, the prestigious Cochrane Review concluded that there was insufficient evidence to support water fluoridation for avoiding cavities. Meanwhile, studies have implicated fluoride in suppressing immunity and as a cause or co-factor in hypothyroidism, cancer, lowered IQ in children, Alzheimer's and other degenerative nerve diseases, behavioral problems, male infertility and impotence.

Pharmaceutical-grade fluoride is questionable enough, but most of the fluoride used in public water comes from scrubber waste generated by the phosphate fertilizer industry. This “dirty” fluoride is accompanied by arsenic, aluminum, lead, cadmium, mercury and other pollutants and has never been tested for safety!

To make sure you’re drinking high-quality water, Beyond Health recommends a home filtration system. Only two types of systems remove all contaminants: distillers and reverse osmosis (RO).  We prefer RO and carry what Raymond Francis determined to be the best RO system available

Since RO systems remove healthy minerals as well as contaminants, be sure to take a high-quality multivitamin-mineral as well.

Although an RO system is a hefty upfront expense, you’ll pay only pennies per gallon for great tasting, pure water, and there’s no better investment you can make in your health!
